Top tips on how Lithuania fast-tracked green procurement
Lithuania embarked on an ambitious public procurement reform in 2021 to transition from 5% to 100% green procurement by 2023. This involved careful planning, capacity building for public buyers, and data-driven monitoring. By December 2023, green procurement uptake reached 94% by value and 93% by total procedures. The focus now shifts to measuring tangible outcomes, such as reducing the country’s carbon footprint, with collaborations underway to develop methodologies for CO2 emissions impact assessment in high-carbon sectors and specific products.
