Webinar: Gender responsive procurement in South Africa
Empowering women economically can contribute towards reducing their vulnerability to gender-based violence. During the 16 days of campaign to end violence against women, the DSBD is collaborating with the Open Contract Partnership to highlight the value of gender responsive procurement to support the economic
growth of women-owned businesses (WOB).
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced in 2020 that the South African Government will commit to ensuring that 40% of all government procurement is set aside for WOB. He launched the Women’s Economic Assembly (WECONA) on the 6th of October 2021 to support this initiative. Open contracting Partnership has completed a study to try and understand the challenges and barriers facing WOB in securing contracts from the government. The objective of this webinar is to explore these challenges and stimulate dialogue.
